East Anatolian Fault
The East Anatolian Fault is a major geological fault located in eastern Turkey. It is a strike-slip fault, meaning that the two sides of the fault move horizontally past each other. This fault is part of the complex tectonic boundary between the Anatolian Plate and the Arabian Plate, contributing to significant seismic activity in the region.
Stretching approximately 600 kilometers, the East Anatolian Fault has been the site of numerous earthquakes throughout history. Its movement is primarily driven by the collision of the Eurasian Plate and the Arabian Plate, making it an important area for studying tectonic processes and earthquake risks in Turkey.
