Duke Of Florence
The title "Duke of Florence" was established in the 15th century and was held by members of the Medici family, who were influential in the political and cultural life of Florence. The dukedom was created to elevate the status of the ruling family, reflecting their power and wealth during the Italian Renaissance.
The title was officially recognized in 1532 when Clement VII, a Medici pope, granted it to Alessandro de' Medici. The dukedom lasted until the late 18th century, when the Grand Duchy of Tuscany was formed, merging the title with that of Grand Duke.
