Duke Ernst I of Saxe-Coburg
Duke Ernst I of Saxe-Coburg (1818-1893) was a German nobleman and the first Duke of the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. He was born into the House of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld and became Duke in 1826 after the duchy was elevated. Ernst I played a significant role in the development of his duchy, promoting education and the arts.
He was also known for his connections to various European royal families, including his marriage to Princess Louise of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg. His descendants, including Prince Albert and Queen Victoria, significantly influenced European history and royal lineage.
