Dragon boat festivals
The Dragon Boat Festival is a traditional holiday celebrated in several East Asian countries, particularly in China. It occurs on the fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar calendar, usually in June. The festival commemorates the ancient poet Qu Yuan, who drowned himself in the river as a protest against corruption. To honor him, people race colorful dragon boats and prepare special rice dumplings called zongzi.
During the festival, communities gather to watch dragon boat races, where teams paddle in unison to the beat of a drum. The event promotes teamwork and cultural heritage, while the zongzi symbolizes the offerings made to Qu Yuan. The festival is a vibrant celebration of history and community spirit.
