The "Door to Hell" is a natural gas field located in Turkmenistan, near the village of Darvaza. It was created in 1971 when a drilling rig accidentally collapsed into a cavern filled with natural gas. To prevent the spread of methane gas, scientists set the site on fire, expecting it to burn out in a few weeks. However, it has been burning continuously for over 50 years. The site has become a popular tourist attraction due to its dramatic appearance, resembling a fiery pit in the desert.
