Darvaza Gas Crater
The Darvaza Gas Crater, also known as the "Door to Hell," is a natural gas field located in the Karakum Desert of Turkmenistan. It was created in 1971 when a drilling rig accidentally collapsed into an underground cavern, releasing natural gas. To prevent the spread of methane gas, scientists set the crater on fire, expecting it to burn out in a few weeks. However, it has been burning continuously for over 50 years.
The crater measures about 70 meters in diameter and 20 meters deep, creating a striking visual spectacle. It attracts tourists and adventurers who come to witness the glowing flames and the eerie landscape surrounding it. The Darvaza Gas Crater has become a unique landmark, symbolizing both the power of nature and human intervention.
