Darvaza
Darvaza, also known as the "Door to Hell," is a natural gas crater located in the Turkmenistan desert. It was created in 1971 when a drilling rig accidentally collapsed into a cavern filled with natural gas. To prevent the spread of methane gas, scientists set the crater on fire, expecting it to burn out in a few weeks. However, it has been burning continuously for over 50 years.
The crater measures about 70 meters in diameter and 20 meters deep, creating a dramatic sight in the barren landscape. Darvaza has become a popular tourist attraction, drawing visitors who are fascinated by its fiery glow, especially at night.
