Dinis of Portugal
Dinis of Portugal, also known as Dinis I, was the King of Portugal from 1279 to 1325. He was the son of Afonso III and is often referred to as "the Farmer King" due to his efforts in promoting agriculture and the cultivation of land. Dinis established the first Portuguese university in Lisbon in 1290, which later moved to Coimbra.
Dinis was also known for his diplomatic skills, fostering peace with neighboring kingdoms. He played a significant role in the development of the Portuguese language and literature, supporting poets like King Afonso X of Castile. His reign is marked by economic growth and cultural advancement.
