Sancho II of Portugal
Sancho II of Portugal was the second king of Portugal, reigning from 1223 to 1248. He was the son of Afonso I of Portugal, the first king, and succeeded his father after his death. Sancho II's reign was marked by conflicts with the nobility and challenges in maintaining control over his kingdom.
Sancho II is often remembered for his efforts to expand and consolidate Portuguese territories. However, his inability to manage the nobility led to his eventual deposition in 1246. He was succeeded by his brother, Afonso III of Portugal, who took over the throne and continued the efforts to strengthen the kingdom.
