Dinis I
Dinis I, also known as Dinis the Farmer King, was the King of Portugal from 1279 to 1325. He is remembered for his efforts to promote agriculture and improve the economy of his kingdom. Dinis established new laws to protect farmers and encouraged the cultivation of land, which helped to increase food production.
In addition to his agricultural reforms, Dinis I was a patron of the arts and education. He founded the University of Lisbon in 1290, making it one of the oldest universities in Europe. His reign is often seen as a time of cultural growth and stability for Portugal.
