Dharmashastras
The Dharmashastras are ancient Indian texts that provide guidelines on moral and ethical conduct, law, and social duties. They are considered a key part of Hindu scripture and are often attributed to sages like Manu. These texts outline the principles of dharma, which refers to righteousness and duty, and cover various aspects of life, including family, society, and governance.
Typically written in Sanskrit, the Dharmashastras include rules for different classes of society, known as varnas, and stages of life, called ashramas. They serve as a foundation for Hindu law and have influenced legal systems and social norms in India for centuries.
