Desert Rodents
Desert rodents are small mammals that have adapted to live in arid environments. Common species include the kangaroo rat, jerboa, and pocket mouse. These rodents have specialized features, such as large hind legs for jumping and fur-lined cheek pouches for storing food. They are primarily nocturnal, which helps them avoid the extreme heat of the day.
To survive in the desert, these rodents have developed efficient water conservation methods. Many can extract moisture from their food, such as seeds and plants, reducing their need for drinking water. Their burrowing behavior also provides shelter from temperature extremes and predators.
