Dersim Rebellion
The Dersim Rebellion, also known as the Dersim Uprising, occurred in 1937-1938 in the Dersim region of Turkey. It was primarily led by the Alevi Kurdish population against the Turkish government's policies, which aimed to assimilate minority groups and suppress their cultural identities. The rebellion was fueled by grievances over land, taxation, and the central government's increasing control.
The Turkish government responded with a military campaign, resulting in significant violence and loss of life. Estimates suggest that tens of thousands of people were killed, and many more were displaced. The aftermath of the rebellion led to further repression of the Kurdish and Alevi communities in Turkey.
