The term "Dambusters" refers to a famous World War II operation conducted by the Royal Air Force (RAF) on May 16-17, 1943. The mission aimed to destroy key dams in Germany's Ruhr Valley using specially designed bouncing bombs, known as Upkeep. This operation was part of a broader strategy to disrupt German industrial production.
The operation was led by Wing Commander Guy Gibson and involved the 617 Squadron. The successful bombing of the Möhne and Eder dams caused significant flooding and damage, showcasing innovative military tactics. The mission has since been commemorated in films and books, highlighting its historical significance.
