DEFA
DEFA, or Deutsche Film-Aktiengesellschaft, was a prominent film production company in East Germany from 1946 until the reunification of Germany in 1990. It was established to create films that aligned with the socialist values of the state, producing a wide range of genres, including feature films, documentaries, and children's movies. DEFA became known for its artistic contributions and was a significant part of the cultural landscape in East Germany.
The company produced over 700 films during its operation, many of which are still celebrated today. Notable works include The Rabbit Is Alive and The Legend of Paul and Paula. After reunification, DEFA's legacy continued through film archives and retrospectives, preserving its impact on German cinema.
