Cuban Adjustment Act
The Cuban Adjustment Act is a U.S. law enacted in 1966 that allows Cuban nationals who have been in the United States for at least one year to apply for permanent residency. This act was created to provide a pathway for Cubans fleeing the political and economic conditions in Cuba to gain legal status in the U.S.
Under this law, Cubans can apply for a green card after meeting the residency requirement, regardless of their immigration status when they arrived. The act reflects U.S. policy towards Cuba and aims to support those escaping the communist regime.
