Count Lamoraal of Egmond
Count Lamoraal of Egmond was a prominent nobleman in the 16th century, known for his role in the {Spanish Netherlands}. Born in 1522, he became a key figure in the resistance against Spanish rule, advocating for the rights of the local nobility and the Protestant population.
Egmond was also a military leader, participating in various campaigns during the {Eighty Years' War}. His opposition to the {Duke of Alva} led to his arrest and execution in 1568, which further fueled the conflict between the Dutch and Spanish forces, solidifying his legacy as a martyr for Dutch independence.
