Council of Guardians
The Council of Guardians is a key institution in the Islamic Republic of Iran, responsible for overseeing the legislative process. It consists of twelve members, six of whom are appointed by the Supreme Leader and six are selected from among the judges by the Islamic Consultative Assembly. Their main role is to ensure that laws passed by the assembly comply with Islamic law and the constitution.
In addition to its legislative oversight, the Council of Guardians also plays a crucial role in supervising elections. It reviews candidates for various political offices, including the presidency and parliamentary positions, ensuring they meet the necessary qualifications and adhere to the principles of the Islamic Republic.
