Cortical Homunculus
The Cortical Homunculus is a visual representation of the human body's sensory and motor functions mapped onto the brain's surface. It illustrates how different body parts are represented in the cerebral cortex, with larger areas allocated to parts that require more precise control or have heightened sensitivity, such as the hands and face.
This mapping is divided into two main types: the sensory homunculus, which shows how sensory information is processed, and the motor homunculus, which indicates how motor commands are generated. Both representations highlight the disproportionate allocation of brain resources to specific body regions, reflecting their functional importance.
