Motor Cortex
The motor cortex is a region in the brain responsible for planning, controlling, and executing voluntary movements. It is located in the frontal lobe, just in front of the central sulcus. The motor cortex is divided into two main areas: the primary motor cortex, which directly controls muscle movements, and the premotor cortex, which is involved in the planning of movements.
Neurons in the motor cortex send signals to the spinal cord and muscles, allowing for coordinated actions. Different parts of the motor cortex correspond to different body parts, a concept known as the homunculus. This organization helps the brain manage complex movements efficiently.
