Conn's syndrome
Conn's syndrome, also known as primary hyperaldosteronism, is a condition characterized by the overproduction of the hormone aldosterone from the adrenal glands. This excess aldosterone leads to increased sodium retention, potassium loss, and elevated blood pressure, which can result in hypertension and other cardiovascular issues.
The condition is often caused by an adrenal adenoma, a benign tumor on the adrenal gland, or adrenal hyperplasia. Diagnosis typically involves blood tests to measure hormone levels and imaging studies to identify any abnormalities in the adrenal glands. Treatment may include medications, lifestyle changes, or surgery to remove the tumor.
