Aldosteronism
Aldosteronism is a medical condition characterized by the overproduction of the hormone aldosterone by the adrenal glands. This hormone helps regulate blood pressure by controlling sodium and potassium levels in the body. When aldosterone is produced in excess, it can lead to high blood pressure and low potassium levels, which may cause various health issues.
There are two main types of aldosteronism: primary and secondary. Primary aldosteronism is often caused by a benign tumor in the adrenal gland, while secondary aldosteronism results from other conditions that affect hormone regulation, such as heart failure or liver cirrhosis.
