Congenital Zika Syndrome
Congenital Zika Syndrome is a group of birth defects that can occur in babies whose mothers were infected with the Zika virus during pregnancy. This syndrome can lead to a range of health issues, including microcephaly, which is a condition where a baby’s head is smaller than expected, and developmental delays. Other potential problems include vision and hearing issues, as well as problems with movement and coordination.
The Zika virus is primarily spread through the bite of infected Aedes mosquitoes, but it can also be transmitted through sexual contact and from mother to child during pregnancy. Preventing Zika infection during pregnancy is crucial, as there is currently no specific treatment for the syndrome.
