Communist Party of Chile
The Communist Party of Chile (Partido Comunista de Chile) is a political party founded in 1922. It advocates for Marxist-Leninist principles and aims to establish a socialist society in Chile. The party has played a significant role in Chilean politics, especially during the presidency of Salvador Allende in the early 1970s, when it was part of the Popular Unity coalition.
After the military coup in 1973, which overthrew Allende, the Communist Party faced repression. Despite this, it continued to operate underground and later re-emerged in the democratic transition of the 1990s. Today, it remains an active political force in Chile, participating in elections and advocating for social justice and workers' rights.
