Common Moorhen
The Common Moorhen, also known as Gallinula chloropus, is a medium-sized waterbird found in wetlands across Europe, Asia, and North America. It has a distinctive appearance with a dark body, a bright red frontal shield, and yellow-tipped toes. Moorhens are often seen swimming or walking along the edges of ponds, lakes, and marshes.
These birds primarily feed on aquatic plants, seeds, and small invertebrates. They are known for their loud calls and can be quite territorial, especially during the breeding season. Common Moorhens build nests in dense vegetation, where they lay clutches of 5 to 10 eggs.
