Gallinula chloropus
The Gallinula chloropus, commonly known as the Moorhen, is a medium-sized waterbird found in wetlands across Europe, Asia, and North America. It has a distinctive appearance with a dark brown body, a red frontal shield, and yellow-green legs. Moorhens are often seen swimming or walking along the edges of ponds, lakes, and marshes.
Moorhens primarily feed on aquatic plants, seeds, and small invertebrates. They are known for their agile movements and can often be spotted diving underwater to forage. During the breeding season, they build nests in dense vegetation, where they lay clutches of 5 to 10 eggs.
