Cocoa Production
Cocoa production involves the cultivation of the cocoa tree, which produces cocoa pods containing cocoa beans. These beans are the primary ingredient for making chocolate. The process begins with planting the seeds, which grow into trees that thrive in tropical climates. After about three to five years, the trees start to bear fruit, and the pods are harvested by hand.
Once harvested, the cocoa pods are opened to extract the cocoa beans. The beans are then fermented, dried, roasted, and ground to produce cocoa mass, which can be further processed into cocoa powder and cocoa butter. Major producers of cocoa include countries like Ivory Coast, Ghana, and Indonesia.
