Cocoa Processing
Cocoa processing is the method of transforming raw cocoa beans into products like cocoa powder and chocolate. The process begins with harvesting cocoa pods from the cocoa tree, which are then fermented, dried, and roasted to develop flavor. After roasting, the beans are cracked open to separate the cocoa nibs from the shells.
The nibs are ground into a thick paste called chocolate liquor, which can be further processed to extract cocoa butter and cocoa powder. Cocoa butter is used in chocolate and cosmetics, while cocoa powder is a key ingredient in baking and beverages. This processing is essential for creating the delicious products enjoyed worldwide.
