Cholangiopathies
Cholangiopathies are a group of diseases that affect the bile ducts, which are tubes that carry bile from the liver to the small intestine. These conditions can lead to inflammation, scarring, or blockage of the bile ducts, causing problems with digestion and liver function. Common types of cholangiopathies include primary sclerosing cholangitis and bile duct cancer.
Symptoms of cholangiopathies may include jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes), itching, and abdominal pain. Diagnosis often involves imaging tests like MRI or CT scans, and treatment can vary from medication to surgery, depending on the severity and type of the condition.
