Chinese Zen
Chinese Zen, known as Chan in Chinese, is a school of Mahayana Buddhism that emphasizes direct experience and meditation. It originated in China around the 6th century and focuses on achieving enlightenment through mindfulness and the practice of zazen, or seated meditation.
The teachings of Chinese Zen often highlight the importance of simplicity and spontaneity, encouraging practitioners to let go of attachments and preconceived notions. Influential figures, such as Bodhidharma, are central to its history, promoting the idea that enlightenment can be realized in everyday life rather than through scholarly study.
