Chinese Christianity
Chinese Christianity refers to the practice of Christianity within China, which has a rich and complex history. It began in the 7th century with the arrival of Nestorian Christians, but significant growth occurred in the 19th and 20th centuries due to missionary efforts. Today, there are both state-sanctioned churches, such as the Three-Self Patriotic Movement, and underground house churches that operate outside government control.
Christianity in China is diverse, encompassing various denominations, including Catholicism and Protestantism. The number of Christians has been steadily increasing, with estimates suggesting that there are over 100 million believers. This growth has led to a vibrant religious community, despite challenges posed by government regulations and restrictions on religious practices.
