Three-Self Patriotic Movement
The Three-Self Patriotic Movement (TSPM) is a state-sanctioned Protestant church in China that was established in 1951. It promotes three principles: self-governance, self-support, and self-propagation, aiming to create a church independent of foreign influence. The movement was part of the broader effort by the Chinese Communist Party to control religious practices and ensure that they align with socialist values.
The TSPM operates alongside the China Christian Council (CCC), which focuses on theological education and church activities. Together, they oversee the majority of Protestant churches in China, providing a framework for worship while adhering to government regulations. This structure has led to the emergence of a unique form of Christianity within the country.
