Chera
The Chera dynasty was one of the ancient Tamil dynasties that ruled parts of southern India, particularly in the regions of present-day Kerala and Tamil Nadu. It is known for its contributions to trade, culture, and the arts, flourishing from around the 3rd century BCE to the 12th century CE. The Cheras were significant players in maritime trade, connecting India with other regions, including Southeast Asia.
The Chera rulers were patrons of literature and the Tamil language, promoting the development of poetry and drama. They are often associated with the famous Tamil epic, the Silappatikaram, which highlights their cultural influence. The dynasty's decline was marked by the rise of other powers, such as the Chola and Pandya dynasties.
