Chatam Sofer
Chatam Sofer, born in 1762 in Frankfurt, was a prominent Rabbi and Talmudic scholar known for his significant contributions to Jewish law and thought. His real name was Moshe Sofer, and he became the chief rabbi of Pressburg (now Bratislava) in Slovakia. He is best known for his strict adherence to traditional Jewish practices and his opposition to the Haskalah movement, which sought to modernize Jewish life.
He authored many important works, including the Chatam Sofer responsa, which address various legal and ethical questions. His teachings emphasized the importance of maintaining Orthodox Judaism and preserving Jewish traditions. Chatam Sofer passed away in 1839, leaving a lasting legacy in Jewish scholarship and law.
