Moshe Sofer
Moshe Sofer, also known as the Chatam Sofer, was a prominent rabbi and scholar born in 1762 in Frankfurt, Germany. He is best known for his contributions to Jewish law and philosophy, as well as his role in the Orthodox Jewish community. Sofer served as the chief rabbi of Pressburg (now Bratislava, Slovakia) and founded a significant yeshiva that attracted many students.
Sofer was a staunch opponent of the Haskalah, or Jewish Enlightenment, advocating for traditional Jewish practices and beliefs. His writings, including responsa and sermons, continue to influence Jewish thought today. He passed away in 1839, leaving a lasting legacy in Jewish scholarship.
