Charles of Anjou
Charles of Anjou was a French nobleman born in 1226, known for being the younger brother of King Louis IX of France. He became the first King of Sicily in 1266 after defeating the last Hohenstaufen ruler, Manfred of Sicily. His reign marked the beginning of the Angevins in southern Italy.
Charles was also a significant political figure in medieval Europe, as he sought to expand his influence through marriage and alliances. He played a crucial role in the Crusades, particularly the Seventh Crusade, and aimed to establish a powerful dynasty in the Mediterranean region.
