Chanukah
Chanukah is an eight-day Jewish festival, also known as the Festival of Lights. It commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem during the second century BCE, following the victory of the Maccabees over the Seleucid Empire. The holiday celebrates the miracle of a small amount of oil lasting eight days in the temple's menorah, despite there being only enough for one day.
During Chanukah, families light a special candle holder called a menorah, adding one candle each night until all eight are lit. Traditional customs include playing the dreidel, a spinning top game, and enjoying foods fried in oil, such as latkes and sufganiyot.
