Central Iranian Plateau
The Central Iranian Plateau is a vast, arid region located in the heart of Iran. It is characterized by its high elevation, averaging around 1,200 meters (3,900 feet) above sea level, and is surrounded by mountain ranges, including the Zagros Mountains to the west and the Alborz Mountains to the north. The plateau features a mix of deserts, salt flats, and sparse vegetation, making it a unique ecological zone.
This plateau plays a significant role in the climate of Iran, influencing weather patterns and contributing to the country's overall aridity. Major cities, such as Tehran and Isfahan, are situated on the plateau, benefiting from its strategic location for trade and agriculture. The region's geology includes various mineral resources, which are important for the local economy.
