Carrion's Disease
Carrion's Disease is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Bartonella bacilliformis. It primarily affects individuals in the Andean regions of South America, particularly in Peru and Ecuador. The disease is transmitted through the bite of infected sandflies, leading to two main forms: acute and chronic.
The acute form, known as Oroya fever, presents with high fever, anemia, and other severe symptoms. The chronic form, called verruga peruana, is characterized by skin lesions. Treatment typically involves antibiotics, and prevention focuses on avoiding sandfly bites through protective measures.
