Cardinal Ximenes
Cardinal Ximenes, also known as Francisco Ximenes de Cisneros, was a prominent Spanish cleric and statesman born in 1436. He played a crucial role in the Spanish Inquisition and served as the Archbishop of Toledo. Ximenes was known for his efforts in reforming the clergy and promoting education, founding the University of Alcalá.
He is perhaps best remembered for commissioning the Complutensian Polyglot Bible, the first printed edition of the Bible in multiple languages. Ximenes' work significantly influenced the study of biblical texts and contributed to the Renaissance in Spain. He passed away in 1517, leaving a lasting legacy in religious and educational reform.
