Complutensian Polyglot Bible
The Complutensian Polyglot Bible is a significant biblical text published in the early 16th century. Compiled by scholars at the University of Alcalá de Henares in Spain, it features the Old Testament and New Testament in five languages: Hebrew, Greek, Latin, Aramaic, and Spanish. This work aimed to provide a comprehensive resource for biblical study and translation.
Commissioned by Cardinal Francisco Jiménez de Cisneros, the Polyglot Bible was the first of its kind to present multiple languages side by side. Completed in 1517, it played a crucial role in the Renaissance's emphasis on textual accuracy and linguistic scholarship, influencing later translations and studies of the Bible.
