Francisco Ximenes de Cisneros
Francisco Ximenes de Cisneros was a Spanish cardinal and statesman born around 1436. He played a significant role in the Catholic Church and was a key figure in the Spanish Inquisition. As the Archbishop of Toledo, he worked to reform the clergy and improve education, founding the University of Alcalá in 1499.
Cisneros is also known for his efforts in promoting the Spanish language and translating the Bible into it. His most notable work, the Complutensian Polyglot Bible, was the first printed edition of the Bible in multiple languages, showcasing his commitment to scholarship and religious reform.
