Bunya Pine
The Bunya Pine (Araucaria bidwillii) is a large evergreen tree native to the subtropical rainforests of eastern Australia. It can grow up to 50 meters tall and has a distinctive conical shape with thick, spiky leaves. The tree produces large, edible seeds known as Bunya nuts, which have been a traditional food source for Indigenous Australians.
Bunya Pines thrive in well-drained soils and prefer a humid climate. They are often found in national parks and protected areas, where they contribute to biodiversity. The tree is also valued for its timber, which is used in construction and furniture making.
