Borassus flabellifer
Borassus flabellifer, commonly known as the fan palm or toddy palm, is a species of palm tree native to tropical regions of Southeast Asia and India. It can grow up to 30 meters tall and features large, fan-shaped leaves that can reach up to 2 meters in diameter. The tree is known for its distinctive, tall trunk and is often found in open fields and along roadsides.
The fan palm is economically significant, as various parts of the tree are used for food, construction, and traditional crafts. The sap from the tree can be fermented to produce toddy, a local alcoholic beverage, while the fruit is edible and can be consumed fresh or processed into sweets.
