Bodie Island Lighthouse
The Bodie Island Lighthouse is located on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. It was first built in 1847 but was replaced by the current structure in 1872. Standing at 156 feet tall, it is one of the tallest lighthouses in the United States and features a distinctive black and white striped pattern.
The lighthouse was designed to guide ships safely through the treacherous waters of Cape Hatteras. It was automated in 1932 and is now part of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Visitors can explore the surrounding area and learn about its history through guided tours.
