Berber Revolt
The Berber Revolt refers to a series of uprisings by the Berber people against the central authority of the Umayyad Caliphate in the 8th century. The revolt was primarily driven by dissatisfaction with heavy taxation and the imposition of Arab culture on the Berber way of life. The Berbers sought to reclaim their autonomy and preserve their traditions.
The most notable uprising occurred in 740 CE, led by Musa ibn Nusayr and other local leaders. The revolt ultimately resulted in the establishment of the Idrisid dynasty, which marked the beginning of a distinct Berber identity in North Africa. The conflict highlighted the tensions between Arab rulers and indigenous populations.
