Belarusian Resistance
The Belarusian Resistance refers to the collective efforts of individuals and groups opposing the government of Alexander Lukashenko, who has been in power since 1994. This resistance gained significant momentum after the controversial presidential elections in August 2020, which many believed were rigged. Protesters have organized demonstrations, strikes, and various forms of civil disobedience to demand democratic reforms and human rights.
Various organizations, such as the Belarusian Coordination Council, have emerged to lead the resistance and advocate for political change. Activists, including notable figures like Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, have played crucial roles in mobilizing support both domestically and internationally. The resistance continues to face repression, with many activists arrested or forced into exile.
