Battle of Sicily
The Battle of Sicily took place from July 9 to August 17, 1943, during World War II. It was a significant Allied operation aimed at capturing the island of Sicily from Axis forces, primarily composed of German and Italian troops. The battle marked the beginning of the Italian Campaign and involved extensive air and naval support.
Allied forces, including troops from the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada, landed on the southern coast of Sicily. After intense fighting, they successfully secured the island, leading to the downfall of the Mussolini regime and paving the way for the Allied invasion of mainland Italy.
