Operation Husky
Operation Husky was the code name for the Allied invasion of Sicily during World War II, which took place from July 9 to August 17, 1943. The operation aimed to capture the island from Axis forces, primarily Germany and Italy, and to pave the way for the invasion of mainland Italy.
The campaign involved a large-scale amphibious assault and airborne operations, with troops from the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada participating. The successful capture of Sicily marked a significant turning point in the war, leading to the downfall of the Mussolini regime and opening up the Mediterranean for Allied operations.
