Battle of Fishguard
The Battle of Fishguard took place in February 1797 during the French Revolutionary Wars. A small force of French troops, numbering around 1,400, landed in Wales with the aim of inciting a rebellion against British rule. They faced local militia and volunteers, who were poorly organized and outnumbered.
The battle was brief, lasting only a few days. The French forces were ultimately defeated, and many were captured. This event is notable as it was the last invasion of Britain, and it highlighted the fears of foreign invasion during that period. The battle is often remembered for its unique circumstances and local involvement.
